The journey from music to spirits has been quite fascinating. Music! Something which everyone can relate to in any mood. There is that one song for everyone. All you have to do is find it. My search led me to DJing. This one is just a brief journey from “A DJ to a Bartender”
Music has always been a part of my profession and it still continues to a part of my profession. DJing was fun turned full-time career the day I started making serious money. And at Nineteen I got my first break as Resident DJ at Club Abyss, Bandra. this is where it all started. From there went on to be a resident DJ for 5 more night clubs.
Night Club as Resident DJ
- Club Abyss –Mumbai
- Wild Orchid – Mumbai
- Café Sound of Music – Delhi
- Score sports bar – Mumbai
- Beyond El Rancho – Dubai
- Star Rock – Chennai
The icing on the cake was “Score Sports Bar” part-owned by the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar. It actually was a privilege to play there from the very first day of the club. Leaving it only to head to Dubai to play at “Beyond El Rancho” Marco Polo hotel in Dubai. To live my dream of playing international.
And Dubai! like always, a fascinating place to be. A city, well known for its a spectacular nightlife. And being a DJ in one of the most happening clubs in Dubai, was a dream come true. Giving me the opportunity to spin alongside some of the big names in the music industry from across the globe.
Playing at Beyond El Rancho was a beautiful experience. Something which I would cherish for a very long time. And with five years of living a dream, I finally got back to India. A dream well lived. Dubai and el rancho will always remain the best days of my DJing career.
DJ was so fun in the era where when technology had not yet taken over. Skill mattered. Knowing how to use the pitch was not an easy thing to do. Skill was a must. With technology taking over things was made much easier, suddenly everyone was a DJ 🙂 .
Bars have always been an integral part of Night Clubs. There’s seems to be a definite connection with Music and Spirits. With 10 years of DJing, there was more than enough spirits in me. And yeah it was all mixed up spirits too. 🙂
The transformation from DJ to a Bartender was never going to be easy. Giving away the DJ tag was something quite difficult to do. Was a little bit hesitant in giving away the DJ tag. Well, you can call it attitude but whatever it was, it was difficult.
Bartending was not as easy as it seemed to be, with quite a lot to learn. But at that point of time, Rohan Carvalho was one of the top bartenders of India. Luckily he happens to be my younger sibling. Well, things just started to fall into place from there on. Under the guidance of Rohan Carvalho, everything fitted perfectly.
With time I slowly realised bartending is no joke. Things seemed much different from inside of the bar. Like everyone who is not associated with the bar, thought of bartending being quite an easy thing. An absolute contradict of what it actually is.
This probably made me realise there is skill involved in bartending too. Learned the A to Z of bartending first hand from the master of bartending himself. Together got the opportunity to work in some of India’s biggest party and alcohol brands in India.
From, DJ to a Bartender
As of today, I share 10 years of experience in DJing and 10 years of experience in Bartending. With a total of 20 years of relation with alcohol. 10 years of drinking and 10 Years or making Cocktails.
I was lucky enough to do the things I loved doing. And was fortunate enough to make a living out of it, be it DJing or Bartending. DJing has been kind to me and so has bartending. The transformation from a DJ to a Bartender has been one memorable journey. Never any regrets what so ever.
